REYNOLDS – Rose Marie Buschman, 78, of Reynolds, died at 10 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, 2008, in Reynolds. Born March 10, 1930, in Speedway, she was the daughter of the late Hubert and Emma Simms Glidewell. She attended elementary school in Speedway, graduated from Ben Davis High
School in Indianapolis and received a LPN degree in nursing. She had lived in the Reynolds community for the Reynolds community for the past 54 years, coming here from Speedway, where she had lived for 24 years. She married Linden “Sam” Buschman on Sept. 21, 1954, in Speedway. He died April 17, 1984. Mrs. Buschman was a LPN at Wishard Hospital in Indianapolis for several years and at the Turtle Creek Nursing Home, now know as Monticello Assisted Living and Healthcare Center, in Monticello, for several years. She was a member of the Reynolds United Methodist Church, where she formerly taught Sunday school and took care of the nursery. Surviving are daughters, Donna M. Woods (husband: Lee) of Lafayette and Mary Ann Larson (husband: John Jr.) of Bloomington, Minn.; a son, Roger G. Buschman (wife: Linda) of Rensselaer; a sister, Bonita Wilson of Bradenton, Fla. Visitation 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008, with funeral services 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008, at the Miller-Roscka Funeral Home of Monticello.

Born in Coalmont, on Oct. 23, 1919, he was the son of John Harve and Stella May (Nicholson) Royer. He married Dorothy (Blanton) Lynn on February 15, 1983. He worked for the Mobil Oil Company Refinery and retired in 1984. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was a World War II veteran in the U.S. Army. While in the service, he received the EAME Theater ribbon with two Bronze Stars. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Lynn Royer; two sons: Martell (Kathy) Royer of Merrillville, and Ronlin Lee (Phyllis Hallett) Royer of Abiquiu, NM; two daughters: Utahna Dawn (Richard) Ordyna of Mountain Green, UT, and Deena Kay (James) Zieglosky of Morgan, UT; Stepchildren: Robert Alan (Connie) Lynn of Riley, Diana (Dan) Lahmann of Linton, and Barbara (Lynn) Bland of Bedford; 13 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. Gary shared a lifetime of stories with his family, and left us numerous, wonderful memories to cherish. Lovingly known as “GrandCap” to the youngest in the family, Gary was especially proud of his grandkids ‘accomplishments and supportive of their goals with Brad being an accomplished pole vaulter, Ashley (a.k.a Cash as GrandCap called her) following her dream of being an exceptional volleyball player and Luke being a cross country runner and swimming star. Gary was an avid sport fisherman, played guitar, especially with his bridge group of 20+ years, and enjoyed attending and watching Nascar and Indy car races. Gary was also a Corvette enthusiast, owning over fifteen of them during his lifetime. In the last few years, he loved to travel on cruise ships; he enjoyed the salt air, the ocean breeze, the warmth of the sunshine, and of course, his love for the ‘crap’ table. Many of us tease him that he was like a cat with nine lives because he had overcome so many medical challenges throughout the last twenty-plus years. Despite everything that the faced, he lived everyday to his fullest, which always included humor and Dr. Gordon´s until his last day. Even though his life was short, he would tell you that he had lived a full, rewarding life that encompassed so much pride, joy, laughter and happiness. Gary will be remembered by all who knew him, dearly missed by his family and held in all of our memories and hearts forever. Jane was born in La Porte, Indiana on November 26, 1919. She was the middle child of three including her older brother, Leon, and her younger sister, Beverly. She met Jerry on a blind date, and they were married in the parsonage of the Evangelical Church in South Bend, Indiana on October 15, 1939. Together they forged a life that took them across the country, spanned interesting times in our nation´s history, and resulted in a beautiful family. While in South Bend, Jane was an avid golfer and an active member of the Morris Park Country Club with many tournament wins to her credit. In Florida, she continued to golf, even making a “Hole In One” at Jonathan´s Landing. She loved to cook, bake pies, and entertain. She was a wonderful seamstress and quilter, creating numerous memorable family heirlooms to be cherished for all time. The family requests charitable gifts only. William L. Heminger, 85, residing on Renfrew Drive, South Bend, Indiana, died at 7:10 PM Thursday, February 13, 2003 at St. Paul’s Health Care Center, South Bend. He retired in 1980 from Torrington company after 34 years of service. Mr. Heminger was born on March 31, 1917, in Mishawaka, Indiana, to James Walter and Hazel [Herbster] Heminger and was a lifelong area residents. On August 29, 1980, in South Bend, Indiana, he married Astrid Voreis who survives. Surviving along with his loving wife, Astrid Heminger, of South Bend, are a daughter, Gail [Ronald] Cunningham of Columbia, South Carolina; a son, Thomas [Kathleen] Heminger of South Bend; three stepsons, Richard [Catherine] Voreis of Dallas, Texas, Charles [Francine] Voreis of South Bend and Kent [Sandy]Voreis of South Bend; three grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Hollingsworth of Osceola, Indiana; and a brother, Raymond [Ann] Heminger of Elkhart, Indiana. Donald L. Marvel graduated from Riley High School in South Bend, Indiana in 1942. He was very active in music while in high school. He formed a band with three others and they played all over South Bend. Don was the lead guitarist. In 1942, Donald was drafted to serve in the Army. He showed a great aptitude for learning quickly. The Army sent him to the University of San Francisco and Stanford University to receive Specialized Training. He was there from 1943 to 1944. He then went overseas to work in the Signal Corp. While in Europe he visited many of the war areas and various sights.
After returning from WWII, Donald Marvel attended Notre Dame University for a short period of time. He met and married Barbara Jean Hayes in 1946. They married December 20, 1946 in South Bend, Indiana. They soon divorced in 1947 after moving to Fort Wayne, Indiana. On January 21, 1949, Donald married Betty Mullen in Fort Wayne, Indiana. In May 1947 Donald joined Philips Dodge Copper Products in the payroll department. In 1951 he was moved to the data processing area of Philips Dodge. Here he gained the knowledge of early computing. He learned machine operation board wiring and systems design. This with move, Donald gained a passion for learning more about computing an computers. He became assistant supervisor in 1953. Donald joined General Electric in 1953 in the Specialty Motor Department division as a supervisor of machine accounting. He was with General Electric for over 25 years in different positions.. During his tenure with General Electric, Donald Marvel not only was the supervisor of the data processing department he also help GE move into the computer business. On July 26, 1963, he remarried Barbara Hayes Boschet. Don and his new family moved to Peoria, Illinois to assist in the implementation of adding GE computers at the Caterpillar plant there. On completion of his duties in Peoria, he then moved to Detroit, Michigan to become the project manager at the Chrysler Information Processing Center. In 1967 Donald came back to Fort Wayne, Indiana and became once again the Manager of Information Systems and Data Processing.
Music was one of his main passions all throughout the time you spend in the army and after. Donald had two different groups that played on radio in the Fort. Wayne, Indiana area.

According to Kim Putman – “There was a story my dad and I heard him tell, but no one else seems to have ever heard it! I wonder if anyone else knows of it. My father-in-law served in the army YEARS after the fact, and HE was familiar with the story, and he lived in Maine!
The story goes like this – Uncle Frosty (which is what people called Forest), had to go on a base one night. I don’t remember WHY he did this, but he wasn’t in uniform. He had somehow left his ID … he was late to something, had to get on the base. The young man at the gate was told not to let anyone pass under any circumstances. Uncle Frosty was standing there in plain clothes, and the young man said, “Identify yourself!” Not thinking, I guess, he replied, “I’m Captain Marvel!” “Yeah, and I’m Captain Midnight,” the young guy replied before clubbing Frosty over the head with his night stick. He put him in the hospital … could have killed him. When he was mending up, they asked Frosty if he wanted the guy under court martial, and he said, “How can I? I came in plain clothes and no ID and said I was Captain Marvel.” “

Robert B. Marvel, Sr., 72, of Joan Avenue, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away of natural causes on Monday, Nov. 16, in Saint Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in South Bend, Ind. Mr. Marvel was born on April 22, 1926, in Coal-mont, Ind., to Oscar and Gladys (Burns) Marvel. He was preceded in death by his parents, and by a brother, Col. Forrest J. Marvel. On April 22, 1944, Mr. Marvel married Virginia Zimmer in South Bend. She survives. He is also survived by four sons, Richard Marvel of Mishawaka, Ronald Marvel and his wife Leslie of Granger, Ind., Randy Marvel and his wife Shirley of Niles, Mich., and Robert Marvel, Jr., and his wife Judy of Edwardsburg, Mich.; a daughter, Jennifer Webb and her husband Stephen of Edwardsburg; three sisters, Mary Lou Naughton and her husband Joe of South Carolina. Madeline Coleman of Mishawaka, and Margaret Stevenson and her husband Glen of Ypsilanti, Mich.; and by 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Mr. Marvel was a graduate of Mishawaka High School. He was employed by Local 292 in South Bend for 37 years where he was instrumental in initiating the Ironworker Apprentice Program and the Ironworker Benefit Trust Program. Many of his years were spent in the construction of the Cook Nuclear Power Plant in Bridgman, Mich. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Chapel Hill Funeral Home.Reverend Mike Cramer will conduct a memorial service at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 20, at the New Life Baptist Church on McKinley Highway. Memorial donations may be made in Mr. Marvel’s name to the Salvation Army. The Chapel Hill Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Marvel was an avid outdoorsman, which he passed on to his children and grandchildren. He will be missed by his family and friends.

WAKARUSA – Virginia Rose Marvel, 91, of Wakarusa, passed away at 12:30 pm, Thursday, January 18, 2018 in Miller’s Merry Manor of Wakarusa.
She was born on September 8, 1926 in Mishawaka, the daughter of George and Catherine Zimmer. She is survived by five children: Robert (Judy) Marvel, Jr. of Edwardsburg, Richard Marvel of Mishawaka, Randy (Shirley) Marvel of Niles, Jennifer (Steve) Webb of Edwardsburg, and Ron (Leslie) Marvel of Osceola, 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by a sister, Joan Clift of Mattawan, MI. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Robert, who passed on November 17, 1998, and a sister, Betty Atkins. Virginia was a loving and caring homemaker, who loved her flower gardens and taking care of her yard. She enjoyed puzzles and games with her grandchildren. W. Jean Easton Feb. 25, 1929 – June 14, 2014 MISHAWAKA – W. Jean Easton, age 85, of Mishawaka, went home to be with the Lord early in the morning on Saturday, June 14, 2014, following a brief illness. Jean was born February 25, 1929, in Coalmont, Indiana, to the late Walter and Ethel (Marvel) Bickel. On March 2, 1946, she married George Easton Jr. in Coalmont. He preceded her in death, passing away in November of 2010. Surviving is her son, Dennis (Marilyn) Easton of Mishawaka, and eight grandchildren: Scott, Chris, Nathan, Judah Genny, Joel, Jessica and Julie. Also surviving are 6 great-grandchildren, Aurora, Gus, Kristopher, Chloe, Gaege and Kaedyn Wachs. Jean was preceded in death by her son, George Terrell “Terry” Easton in 2009 and her brother, Kenneth Dale Bickel in 2000. Larry l. Marvel, 29 years old of Whiting, a former resident of Coalmont, died at 6:00 o’clock Friday morning at the St. Margaret’s hospital at Hammond. He had been ill for the past four years. Mr. Marvel was born near Coalmont, the son of Hugh and Mary Christy Marvel. He had spent most of his life at Whiting, being employed as a cabinet maker until his health failed. He is survived by the widow, Mrs. Phyllis Marvel; one daughter, Debra, at home; a son, Milo, at home; the mother, Mrs. Mary Marvel of Whiting; a brother Milo Marvel of Whiting; one sister, Miss Vickie Marvel of Whiting, and the maternal grandmother, Mrs. Eva Christy of Coalmont. The body of the deceased was returned to the McClanahan Funeral home at Jasonville, where friends may call. Lawrence Marvel MISHAWAKA — Lawrence Glen Marvel, 59, of North Main Street, Mishawaka, died at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday (April 20, 2005) at home. Mr. Marvel was born June 22, 1945, in Mishawaka. He married Dawn L. Himes on Aug. 21, 1970, in Plymouth. She survives, along with his mother, Georgia Marvel of Nappanee; a son, David (Sheila) Marvel of Bradenton, Fla.; two grandchildren; two sisters; and a brother. He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Marvel, and two sisters. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. Eighth Street, Mishawaka, where services will be at noon Saturday with the Rev. Tim Green officiating. Mr. Marvel was a welder at RGM (Dodges) Foundry. After serving for 30 years in the Marine Corps, he retired as a master sergeant. He was a member of the Marine Corps League and a longtime member of VFW Post 360. He served three tours of duty in Vietnam and received numerous awards. Memorials may be given to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 1100 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.

Mishawaka – Dawn Lucille (Himes) Marvel, formerly from Mishawaka, passed away in Bradenton, Florida, on March 16, 2011. Dawn was preceded in death by her father, Victor B. Himes; her mother, Mariam Grace (Starkweather) Himes; a brother, Walter B. Himes; and her husband, Lawrence Glen Marvel. Dawn is survived by a son, David Kurt Marvel; his wife Sheila; a granddaughter, Samantha; a grandson, David Kyle, all of Bradenton, FL; and a sister, Shirley (Chuck) Weir of Mishawaka. Dawn is also survived by two nieces, Camala Ann Weir (Bradley) Soule of Mishawaka and Candace Amy Weir of Alexandria, Virginia. Dawn is also survived by one grandniece, Charlie Ann Soule of Mishawaka. Dawn was surrounded by family and several of her friends, who were very helpful to her while she battled pancreatic cancer. A memorial brunch will be held today, Sunday, March 20th, in Bradenton, FL., and cremation will be on Monday, March 21st. Covell cremations is handling arraignments. Lt. Marvel Killed In Tokyo Accident
Second Lt. James J. Marvel, 25, pilot of a P-38 fighter plane, was killed in an accident Nov. 6, in the Tokyo area, according to word received yesterday by his wife, Mrs. Dorothy M. Marvel, 10 Eastern Avenue. Lt. Marvel went overseas Aug. 25 and was stationed at Luzon and at Okinawa before he went to Tachikawa Air Field, 13 miles south of Tokyo. He enter the Army May 1, 1943, leaving the employ of the Allison Division of General Motors Corp. He was a graduate of Shortridge High School. His family includes his widow, his parents, Mr. and Mrs James R. Marvel, 1261 West 33d Street; two small children, Michael Lynn Marvel, six months old, and Diana Lee Marvel 3; a sister, Mrs. Robert Weiss of Indianapolis, and his grandmother, Mrs. Alice Marvel of Traders Point.

Mrs. Gladys Findlay, 21 years old, 845 Luett avenue, died Monday night. The wife of Kenneth Findlay, she was a native of Boone county. Survivors, besides the husband, are a son, Ronald Eugene Findlay; a daughter, Judith Ann Findlay, both at home; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Marvel of Royalton; six sisters, Mrs. Mildred Seeright of Sheridan, Mrs. Ruth Wooten, Mrs. Doris Weber and Mrs. Ethel Swails, all of Indianapolis, Mrs. Opal Southwick and Miss Betty Rose Marvel, both of Royalton, and three brothers, Raymond Marvel Jr., Dale marvel and Leon Marvel, all of Royalton. Services will be at 2:30 o’clock this afternoon in the Conkle funeral home. Burial will be in Salem cemetery near Royalton.

Allen L. Marvel, 56, an Indianapolis native, died Wednesday in the Veterans Administration Medical Center at Marion. He had been a production coordinator for Ford Motor Co. 21 years, retiring in 1978. A Navy veteran of World War II, he has a member of Amity United Methodist Church, Evergreen Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Sahara Grotto and American Legion. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Shirley Brothers Irving Hill Chapel, where friends may call from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and Friday, Survivors include his wife, Beverly Marvel; three sons, James, Jeffrey and Rick Marvel, and a daughter, Cheri Marvel.

(Gray) Marvel. He married Teri Crouch on December 18, 1982. He was a machinist and a truck driver. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Whitaker Funeral Home, Cloverdale. Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 5, 2008 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Shumaker Cemetery at Eminence. He is survived by his wife, Teri Marvel; parents, Charles E. and Patricia A. Charles E. “Chuck” Marvel Jr., 51, of Indianapolis, and formerly of Eminence, died Friday, Aug. 1, 2008 at Clarian Health/Methodist Hospital, in Indianapolis. Born on Aug. 6, 1956, in Indianapolis, he was the son of Charles E. and Patricia A. (Gray) Marvel. He married Teri (Crouch) Marvel on Dec. 18, 1982, and she survives. Mr. Marvel was a machinist and truck driver. Survivors include his parents, of Eminence; two sons, Scott Andrew Marvel and wife Stinah, Seffner, Fla., and Stephen Anthony Marvel, of Indianapolis; a sister, Cindi Gott and husband Jerry, of Poland; a brother, Craig E. Marvel, of Clayton; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Chad Marvel in 1997. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Whitaker Funeral Home, Cloverdale, with Pastor Tony Crouch officiating. Burial will be at Shumaker Cemetery, in Eminence. Calling is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
