Young Author’s Competition – 1992 in Lubbock, Texas

Guest Speaker Author Ray Bradbury. He told himself at a young age – “You have got to believe in the future …”

This video and photos from 1992 were taken in Lubbock, Texas. Our daughter, Jenny Marvel, was a sophomore that year and she was entered in the competition. The program was called The Young Author’s Competition. It was open for students of all ages. The host of the program was Patrick Cates and the guest speaker in 1992 was Ray Bradbury. The competition that year was sponsored by the local radio station 98.1 KKCL – Cool FM. The Young Author’s Competition in 2023 celebrated the 45th year of competition. This video is of Ray Bradbury’s personal story that he told everyone that day. (I am sorry for the unprofessional moments of the video.)

Special Videos

The first video is a memorial video of my wife Ruth Anne Steininger Marvel who passed from this life on October 22, 2014. The video was produced by Laurel Land Funeral Home of Fort Worth, Texas. The second video is one that I made of my wife with music from our favorite song – Never My Love by The Association (from the album – Greatest Hits – The Association 1968). Ruth and I married in Grabill, Indiana on June 27th, 1970, and we were married for 44 wonderful years.

What an Evening

On Friday evening, March 10, 2017, I was able to witness a spectacular concert by Gordon Lightfoot at the Majestic Theatre in Dallas, Texas. I believe that this was the start of his touring that year. The videos and audio below were taken the night of his concert. The photos, except for those of the Majestic Theatre, were found on Google at ‘Gordon Lightfoot Photos’ back in March of 2017.
